ENUGU — Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, founder of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), has recounted what he described as a “medical and scientific mystery,” claiming that doctors found his eye condition had deteriorated to the point of blindness — despite his continued ability to see and read without assistance.

Mbaka shared the account in a video recorded at the Passion Center, explaining that he underwent extensive ophthalmological and optical examinations following years of stress and sleeplessness. According to him, the tests — carried out using modern medical equipment — produced results that reportedly left doctors stunned, indicating that both of his eyes had deteriorated beyond the threshold of legal blindness, even though he could still see, read, and move around unaided

Mbaka said the medical team initially assumed he had been brought in by members of the Ayanwu family as a blind patient. “But I said, ‘No, I came by myself.’ They said medically and scientifically, it is not possible for a man whose eye issue has reached the fifth or sixth level of blindness to see, talk less of coming by himself,” he recalled them saying.
He claimed their disbelief deepened further when he opened his Bible and began reading aloud in front of them. “I opened the pages of the Bible and started reading it. Are you telling me that the God of Adoration doesn’t exist?” he said.
According to Mbaka, the doctors ultimately concluded that his ability to see could only be explained if God had given him new eyes. “They said, ‘Except God has put new eyes.’ Yes, God has put new eyes,” he said.
Mbaka further claimed the test results were forwarded to a Los Angeles-based physician, Dr Chiogbu Chukwu, who — working with another doctor identified as Dr Scott — reportedly confirmed that both eyes were no longer medically functional. “Chiogbu confirmed through Dr Scott that, medically, scientifically, the two eyes are gone. But I’m seeing with them,” Mbaka said. “What then do you call miracle? I’m a beneficiary. I can now join you to give testimony. How, I don’t know. I won’t tell you because I prayed so well or I fasted so well. No. Only God knew what He did.”
Urges followers not to abandon medical care
Despite framing the experience as a miracle, Mbaka cautioned his followers against neglecting conventional medical treatment while seeking spiritual healing. “I will always ask you if you are sick. Don’t neglect the medical advice. Do not rely only on prayers. God created those people that are doctors. I believe in medical healing, even as I approve spiritual healing. However God does it, let Him be glorified,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to members of the Adoration Ministry and other supporters for their prayers, describing their collective backing as a key source of strength for the church. “Mbaka cannot play and be a keeper. Mbaka is like a football team with wingers, defenders, keeper and midfielder,” he said.
