“In some ways, Wike is a danger to Tinubu’s victory” — APC chieftain Farouk Aliyu

APC chieftain Farouk Aliyu has said that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike poses, in certain respects, a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

His remarks follow an online clash between Wike and a group of APC governors. Shortly after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the APC Governors’ Forum — led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma — publicly pushed back against Wike’s “Rainbow Coalition” initiative, declaring that they would not support or take part in any political arrangement that isn’t fully behind every APC candidate.

Wike dismissed the governors’ position in response, describing them as “smart but lazy.” He argued that he had never promised to campaign for APC candidates at the subnational level, clarifying that his commitment is specifically to secure Tinubu’s re-election, while working for the election of members of his own party, the PDP.

Reacting to the growing tension in an appearance on Channels TV, Aliyu accused Wike of arrogance, saying he needs to be reminded that both power and life itself are transient. He argued that, in certain ways, Wike’s position and conduct represent a risk to Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027.
