IBADAN — Police have arrested the father of embattled Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, the self-styled director-general of the purported Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), as well as a family friend in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, who confirmed the development in a telephone interview with journalists, said police operatives stormed the family residence and took Adeniyi’s father and a visitor into custody. He argued that there was no legal basis for arresting the father in place of the suspect himself, especially as Adeniyi had reportedly promised to appear in court.

Residents in the area also said officers arrived in several vehicles and removed the father, while leaving the suspect’s mother distressed. The arrest comes amid controversy over the alleged PFIPC, which the presidency has described as a fictitious body.
Adeniyi is currently facing charges of forgery, impersonation and related offences over his claimed appointment as head of the council, and the case is before a Federal High Court in Abuja. Falana has maintained that the matter should be handled strictly through due process, insisting that only the courts can determine criminal liability.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police said the matter was outside his jurisdiction.
