Igwilo was flown out from the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja on Monday. He is an FBI-wanted suspect who was arrested by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in March 2022 over allegations of fraud, money laundering and identity theft linked to an alleged $100 million international fraud scheme.

U.S. authorities accuse Igwilo of masterminding an advance-fee fraud network that targeted victims in several countries through fake investment offers and phishing scams. He was charged in a federal complaint in Houston, Texas, in December 2016 and remained on the FBI wanted list since 2018.

In the United States, he is expected to face charges including wire fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft.
