The Anambra State Police Command has detained a police officer in connection with the death of a 3-month-old baby in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, following a tragic incident that occurred during a landlord-tenant dispute.

What Happened
A landlord allegedly invited the police officer over a dispute with his tenant. When the officer arrived, the tenant was not at home. During the intervention, the officer reportedly attempted to slap a relative of the tenant but missed and struck the baby instead, leading to the infant’s death.
Police Response
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the command, confirmed the incident. He said the officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation and administrative procedures in line with Nigeria Police Force disciplinary processes.
Ikenga disclosed that a full-scale investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
The command urged residents and members of the public to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of escalating tension in the area.
