Kogi Poly Mourns Third Death in Six Weeks as Lecturer Collapses Mid-Lecture

Kogi State Polytechnic is reeling from yet another tragedy after a lecturer, Mr. Anslem Ojodomo, died suddenly on Thursday after collapsing while teaching a class.

According to sources within the institution, Ojodomo slumped during a lecture session, sending students into panic. He was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff were unable to revive him.

The loss is particularly painful for the school community, as it marks the third death in just six weeks since new Rector Prof. Salihu Sanusi took office on February 11. Only a month earlier, Dr. Barnabas Akuba had passed away in February, shortly after completing his PhD programme — a milestone he shared with Ojodomo.

“It is more worrisome that both Anslem and Barnabas died after defending their PhD thesis,” a staff member noted.

Colleagues who saw Ojodomo hours before his death say there was no sign of what was to come. “We cannot imagine that a man who was bubbling and full of life in the meeting is now dead,” one staff member said, noting that he had attended a meeting just hours before heading to the lecture hall.

The string of deaths has cast a shadow of anxiety over the polytechnic community. As of the time of filing this report, the institution’s management had not released an official statement on the incident.
