The Oyo State Police Command has begun a massive manhunt following the k*lling of an Inspector of Police, Aliu Oluwole, during an attack on operatives stationed at the Budo Masalasi Border Post in Oyo State.
The tragic incident occurred just weeks after suspected bandits assaulted the National Park Service office in Oloka Community, Oriire Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of five forest rangers.
According to reports, Inspector Oluwole lost his life while bravely repelling the assailants, who also carted away his AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition (breach number 4516).
Confirming the attack on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the Commissioner of Police has directed an intensive operation to track down the perpetrators.
“Preliminary findings indicate that some of the attackers sustained gunshot injuries and are currently being pursued by security operatives,” Olayinka said.
He added that the Command has strengthened security across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant. Members of the public were also advised to report anyone with gunshot wounds, suspicious medical cases, or unusual behavior to the nearest police station.
Describing the incident as “a heinous act,” Olayinka reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the fallen officer.
“We remain resolute in bringing those responsible to face the full weight of the law,” he added.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects.
