According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges include assault, theft, inflicting bodily harm, and resisting arrest. Portable’s court appearance followed the circulation of a viral video on Sunday showing him in police custody. The incident reportedly stems from a petition filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
Prosecutors allege that on New Year’s Day, the singer assaulted Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals during an altercation at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State. The charge sheet lists other alleged victims as Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 worth ₦12 million, reportedly owned by Ileyemi Damilola and linked to car dealer Wally Dex Auto. Two of Ashabi Simple’s siblings testified in court as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was absent.
The prosecution additionally claimed that Portable obstructed and attacked a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her lawful duties.
The presiding judge refused to grant the musician bail, citing the absence of Inspector Olayemi in court. The judge ruled that a decision on the bail request would be deferred until the officer’s testimony, and adjourned the case to January 19. Consequently, Portable has been remanded in custody.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command announced an investigation into another viral video purportedly showing the singer being assaulted while in police detention.
