President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for an ambassadorial post has drawn criticism from former vice president Atiku Abubakar, who claims he would never take such a step if he were president.
Atiku a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for president in 2023, stated that the choice raises “serious concerns” and runs the risk of being perceived as a political reward rather than an appointment based on merit.
