A lady named Zainab Muhammad was detained by the Katsina Police Command for killing her husband Abubakar Abdulkarim in Jibia town, Jibia Local Government Area, three days after their marriage.
Abdulkarim, also known as Dan Gaske, and Zainab were married on Thursday, November 18, 2025, according to LIB.
The event took place at Tashar Buja’s apartments on Sunday afternoon, November 23.
Locals claimed that while the groom was sleeping, the wife stabbed him with a knife, causing a fatal wound to his neck.
Aminu Danladi, a deceased person’s relative, described his final minutes with the groom prior to the terrible event.
The groom, he said, then returned home to prepare for the engagement before news broke that he had been found d3ad in cold blood in his house.
Contrary to rumours circulating within the community, Aminu confirmed that the marriage was not forced, adding that the couple had maintained good relations prior to their wedding.
Sources revealed that the wife, said to be in her 20s and an indigene of Katsina metropolis, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who was her classmate and friend at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia.
Zainab had reportedly been previously married and divorced, a fact that the groom and his family were allegedly unaware of.
Sources also said the groom was likely k!lled between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. After the incident, the wife was said to have appeared confused and had gone to a neighbour’s house asking for food.
This unusual behaviour prompted the older women in the neighbourhood to suspect that something had happened between the newlyweds.
When they followed her back home, they discovered the lifeless body of the groom and immediately alerted security operatives.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Monday confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing
On November 23rd, 2025, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State,” the statement read.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were quickly drafted to the scene, where the victim was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his neck. The victim was taken to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention; unfortunately, he was pronounced d3ad on arrival by the doctor on duty
“One person is in custody, suspected to be in connection with the offence as investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a diligent and thorough investigation into the matter and urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the investigation.
