After 35 years of outstanding military service, the Nigerian Army officially retired 18 senior officers from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a three-day conference in Benin City, Edo State, concluded with a colourful procession. Enhancing logistics and transport capabilities to improve service delivery across Nigerian Army operations was the main focus of the conference.

Speaking to the audience, NACST Corp Commander Major General Danjuma Shagaya disclosed that four Major Generals and fourteen Brig. Generals were among the retiring group. He described the event as both a tribute and an acknowledgement of the officers’ lasting achievements to the country, praising them for their unflinching dedication from commissioning until retirement.

“This is a joyous occasion for our Corps,” Shagaya remarked, noting the presence of both current and former Corps Commanders gathered to honour the retirees. He also acknowledged the Chief of Army Staff for sending a representative to the event, calling it a gesture of appreciation for the officers’ sacrifices.

Speaking on behalf of those retiring, Major General Olaniyi Dare reflected on careers that spanned multiple decades and encompassed a wide range of operational, command, and staff responsibilities. He emphasised the Corps’ vital role in sustaining troops deployed across various theatres, whether during training exercises, peacekeeping missions, or internal security operations at home and abroad.

Dare noted that while the retirees were leaving active duty, their allegiance to the Army’s core values would remain intact. He expressed their willingness to serve as ambassadors of the Corps and to offer their expertise whenever needed.

He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the families of the retiring officers, acknowledging that military life routinely demands prolonged absences, frequent relocations, and personal hardship. Their steadfast support, he said, was instrumental in enabling the officers to serve with full commitment throughout their careers.
