17-Year-Old Shot Dead in Lagos; OPC Suspect in Custody

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) for allegedly shooting and killing a 17-year-old boy in the Itapo area of Epe Local Government Area, Lagos.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m., with the OPC member reportedly opening fire on the teenager, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed publicly. Following the shooting, aggrieved youths and residents protested by carrying the victim’s corpse through major areas of Epe, expressing their anger and demanding justice. The protest escalated tensions until police and security forces intervened, using teargas and warning shots to disperse the crowd and retrieve the body for further procedures.

A manhunt was launched for the suspect, who has now been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation

This incident adds to a history of violent clashes involving OPC members, who have been implicated in various killings and violent acts over the years, sometimes in the context of ethnic conflicts or vigilante activities.
